Carol Holan (they) is a Multi-media artist from Cleveland, Ohio.
My work revolves around Lake Erie and water, young adulthood and home, friends and community, lesbian identity and queer life. Many of my works feature characters or symbols of my own invention, human and animal. These characters could be my friends, myself, a lover, my imaginary neighbors. I enjoy making books, comics, paper, prints, and watercolor paintings, among many other mediums. Lately, I have been making my illustration wearable through fabric painting. I center improvisation and experimentation in my process. I use unconventional materials and techniques, especially within my prints. If you look closely, you can see layers of pastel and watercolor printed through the screen, acrylic dye, ink, weaving, and collaging. I am unafraid of mistakes or mishaps. I find that many times my least favorite pieces turn into my favorite pieces five or ten layers later. I am excited that you are here and welcome you into my world.
I also enjoy skipping stones, biking, and cooking. I am a bicycle mechanic by day. You can find more information about my professional and academic endeavors on my resume and CV (just ask).
